How to improve Google rankings

1. Content

Your content needs to include your targeted keywords that you would like to rank at the top of Google for.  Ideally your keywords will appear throughout your website in a distributed and logical manner.  Stick to Google's rule though - build websites for users and not for search engines.  As search engines refine their ranking algorythims they have begun to penalize websites that build content solely for good rankings.

2. Technology

Don't use frames, make sure that your website is cross browser (IE 7 and FireFox 2) compatible and that it works properly on both Windows and Mac.  Ideally your website pages should have logical names that relate to your keywords (Google will know what a page called grooming_your_dog.html refers to compared to index.asp?pageid=99877).

3. External Factors

Links to your website.  Google and other search engines view links to your website as an indication of how important your website is.  Whilst you can do a lot on your website to enhance search engine rankings, you will need to take the time to develop links to your website. 

The Competition.  What are your competitors doing & how are they doing it?  The beauty of the online competitive market place is that you can see exactly what competitors are doing & determine whether or not this is placing their website aboce yours.

Website Submission.  Your website needs to be submitted to search engines in order to be indexed within their search results.  Search Engine Submissions (in order of importance) can be done at the following search engines:
